A new 160,000-square-foot greenhouse will be built in Wilmington, bringing 30 permanent jobs to the area.
BrightFarms, a startup that grows local produce nationwide, will build a greenhouse operation that will grow greens, herbs and tomatoes year-round. The space will be built by late 2017, and it is expected to yield more than 1 million pounds of fresh produce each year.
The Ohio BrightFarms greenhouse will use 80 percent less water, 90 percent less land and 95 percent less shipping fuel compared to traditional farming methods, the company said. Produce will not be genetically modified or contain pesticides.
