AeroFarms, a Newark, New Jersey-based indoor and hydroponic farmer, was recently featured on ABC’s The Chew. On the show, AeroFarms’ work with Philip’s Academy, a charter school in Newark, was highlighted.
“Our focus is how we can revitalize communities,” co-founder Marc Oshima said on the show.
Philips students worked with chef and host Mario Batali to learn how AeroFarms grows, how to harvest greens and other vegetables from vertical trays and then cooked a pasta dish with arugula, garlic and squash.
“They teach food literacy, food values and they cook from scratch,” Oshina said when asked why AeroFarms supports Philips Academy. “They have a real commitment to what they’re doing and have a connection with their food.”
