From the Ithaca Journal:
Cornell University greenhouses in Geneva for decades spurred agricultural advances that helped stave off crop disease, increase yields and even create industries in New York state.
Building off that success meant first tearing down, as last year the greenhouses at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station underwent an upgrade from the foundation as part of a $4.7 million public investment.
On Thursday, officials inaugurated the freshly renovated Barton Laboratory Greenhouse with a ribbon cutting attended by Cornell leadership and politicians such as State Senator Michael Nozzolio, R-Fayette.
New glazed glass panels, improved lighting, higher ceilings and upgraded cooling and climate control systems in the 21,000 square foot facility will give researchers increased control of the greenhouse environment and result in significant utility cost savings, according to Jan Nyrop, senior associate dean at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
