March Madness inspires fruit and veggie 'tournament'

SBNation hosted a fruits and veggies bracket.

March Madness brings with it one thing (besides heart-stopping college hoops): brackets.

Dozens and dozens of brackets fill the internet and line office walls and drive family fights. The days before the tournament starts bespectacled basketball fans agonize over which 12-seed will upset which 5-seed and whether Florida will be cutting down the nets. Casual fans check ESPN to figure out just who NCCU is and if they're any good. Hours will get spent researching teams and making selections.

But March also brings "alternative" brackets, an excuse to pit other items and things against each other in a 64-team bracket. For movie sites, that usually means 64 films will square off against each other, in bracket format of course, until one film has been crowned champion (for a year).

And the sports bloggers over at SBNation came up with a pretty cool "alternative" bracket. They ranked 64 fruits and veggies and had them square off to determine the best healthy food. Without giving too much away, the Fruit and Veggie Final Four consists of: lemon vs. broccoli and tomato vs. poblano.

We won't give away the champion, or the laundry list of upsets that dotted the early rounds, but to check out the bracket go to SBNation's website.
