The Great Plains Growers Conference will be held Jan. 9-11 at the campus of Missouri Western State University, 4525 Downs Drive, St. Joseph, Mo. in the Leah Spratt / Fulkerson Center and Blum CenterThe event will include workshops on high tunnel growing, cover crops, soil and irrigation, beekeeping, IPM strategies, and more.
Thursday will have an all-day workshop focusing on high tunnel growing. Friday will focus on soil and irrigation. In Thursday's workshop, Ann Franzenburg, of Van Horne, Iowa will share her experiences growing cool weather and "cool" or interesting crops in the high tunnel or greenhouse. Tomatoes are often grown in the high tunnel -- the presentation will discuss what other crops do well under cover.
Friday and Saturday will have many shorter, 30-45 minute presentations, like Charlie Barden from Kansas State University will discuss recommended tomato cultivars.
