According to a press release, Mastronardi Produce and AppHarvest are set to build a 60-acre greenhouse in Morehead, Kentucky. The facility, according to Mastronardi president and CEO Paul Mastronardi, will be "one of the most sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced greenhouses of its kind
The plan for a greenhouse in Morehead was originally announced in January 2019. Previously, AppHarvest planned to build a greenhouse in Pikeville, Kentucky, but that project fell through. In January, the companies estimated that they would employ 285 workers at the greenhouse.
The greenhouse will produce Sunset brand produce, which includes peppers and cucumbers. According to the release, the Morehead greenhouse will be the largest high-tech cucumber greenhouse in the U.S. Product from the greenhouses are expected to be available in stores in 2020.
