The Montana State University Extension is hosting a pesticide and pest management workshop on March 6. The workshop will be held at its Bozeman campus, in room 134, and will last approximately three hours.
Cecil Tharp, MSU Extension pesticide education specialist, will discuss greenhouse applicator safety and education. Laurie Kerzicnik, MSU insect diagnostician and assistant integrated pest management specialist, will discuss greenhouse pests and their management, including pests such as aphids, whiteflies, thrips, fungus gnats and spider mites, as well as biological, chemical controls and alternatives to chemical controls. David Baumbauer, MSU Plant Growth Center manager and horticulture instructor, will guide a hands-on portion of the workshop with greenhouse pesticide application technology and techniques to improve pesticide effectiveness.
Individuals do not need a private or commercial applicator pesticide license to attend, but workshop participants can receive three Montana private applicator recertification credits or two recertification credits for commercial and governmental applicators holding licenses in the following categories: dealer, demonstration and research pest control, ornamental and turf pest control, agricultural plant pest control, and aquatic pest control.
The cost of the workshop is $10, payable by check or cash to Gallatin County Extension by March 3. Individuals may register at the Gallatin County MSU Extension office or mail the registration fee with their name, phone number and email address to 201 W. Madison Ave. Ste. 300, Belgrade, MT 59714. A campus day-parking pass is available with registration. Space is limited. For more information, call the MSU Extension Gallatin County office at (406) 388-3213.
