New York initiative will create 100 educational greenhouses by 2020

A New York City initiative to create 100 greenhouses for educational use by 2020 is well underway. 

P.S. 333 is one of 12 schools that has already received their greenhouse, according to PBS Newshour. The greenhouses will allow students to experiment with hydroponic growing techniques, and all of the produce that the students grow will be donated to local charities.

Using hydroponic growing methods in school greenhouses is a somewhat new idea. Traditionally school greenhouses have employed soil and studied nutrients. Utilizing a new growing technique will give students and teachers a window into urban sustainability.
