From the The News:
A price increase trend persisted in rates of vegetables in Lahore, Pakistan city markets while the supplies of the majority of seasonal vegetables remained suspended, further pushing rates while the quality of available items deteriorates.
However, after government involvement tomatoes were imported from India which eased pressure on this commodity. But this could be affected anytime as the domestic market is solely dependant on the imported Indian tomato and any hurdle across the border could disturb smooth supply chain. Earlier, the prices of tomatoes were jumped due to a porters strike across the border, due to which supply remained suspended for two days.
The wholesale traders anticipated a price-hike in tomatos due to increase in its consumption during the next week due to Eidul Azha.
