The Buriti (Maurita flexuosa) tree, which grows in the swamp regions of South America is known by Brasilian natives as “The Life Tree.” While that may be a stretch, oil from the tree’s fruit is considered to be one of the greatest beta-carotene, with levels exceeding that of carrot seed oil.
Natives use the oil to protect the skin and to treat a variety of skin conditions including burns and sunburn. Here in the US, the buriti fruit oil is now being found in premium skin-care products because of its ability to nourish, moisturize, and improve the elasticity of maturing skin.
