HortiLED INTER recognized at 2016 GID Awards

The Dutch awards ceromony recognizes excellence in design.

P.L. Light System’s new HortiLED INTER luminaire has been awarded the prestigious GIO Gold designation at this year’s Good Industrial Design Awards (GIO) which recognizes excellence in industrial design, according to a press release.

“For us, this award is a wonderful recognition of our organization’s culture of innovation,” said Todd Phillips, Managing Director of P.L. Light Systems. “We try to incorporate this philosophy of innovation in every aspect of the business. The goal with every new product we develop, is that it delivers optimal lighting performance and maximized yields for growers.”

Per the release, HortiLED INTER delivers up to 125 µmol/m2/s uniformly to the top surface of the leaves, even at the lowest levels of the canopy–while delivering system efficacies as high as 2.63 µmol/J. The narrow-profile modules are also designed to provide heat management–enabling close-to-canopy mounting without any burning. The HortiLED INTER can be used as standalone system or in combination with one of PL Light System’s lighting solutions.

Products submitted for the GIO awards are judged by an independent jury on several criteria, including functionality, ergonomics, design, originality and materials.

“This Gold Award is a fantastic accolade for our design engineering team who truly thought of everything on this product,” explains Lisa Jansen van Rensburg, Marketing Manager at PL Light Systems. “The HortiLED INTER features a narrow-profile design that minimizes the interception of light—but is still robust enough to withstand the harsh conditions of a greenhouse; a unique high-performance optical design; and an external field-replaceable driver box for easy maintenance.”
