The last stop for the 2014 Farm Bill is the desk of President Barack Obama.
The Senate approved the measure this afternoon, ending two-years of gridlock on the issue. The bill passed the Senate chamber with strong bi-partisan support, tallying a vote of 68 to 32. It passed the House on Jan. 29 by a vote of 251-166.
The more than 950 page bill authorizes $1 trillion in spending and reauthorizes programs for dairy, conservation, research, nutrition, and crop insurance. The Food Stamp program will suffer a cut of roughly one percent and a Direct Payment program has been eliminated.
AmericanHort's Craig Regelbrugge spoke to Greenhouse Management Magazine on Jan. 30 about what the bill could mean for the horticulture and floriculture industries. To see the highlights of his interview click here.
