Last month, National Geographic did a story arguing that greenhouses should be a crucial part of NASA's planned trip to Mars.
It would appear someone was listening.
A greenhouse, named Lada, aboard the International Space Station has begun producing fresh vegetables for its spacefaring crewmen. The news comes from Russia's Institute of Biomedical Problems and Utah State University's Space Dynamics Laboratory.
Crews have been able to harvest rice, peas, leafy greens, and a variety of dwarf wheat. The greenhouse underwent repairs this year and will be re-stocked with rice, tomatoes, and peppers.
