According to a new study, consumers still prefer traditional grocery outlets over online grocery options,.
The research - titled TABS Analytics Annual Food and Beverage Consumables Study - is in its sixth year and says that while online retail is making a dent in the industry, it still is not on the same level as traditional outlets.
“Growth in virtually every category of food and beverages examined in this year’s study can be attributed to two underlying trends: more buyers purchasing those products and heavy buyers increasing the amount of those products that they purchase,” said Dr. Kurt Jetta, president and founder of TABS Analytics, according to a press release. “Online retailers still have a lot of ground to make up to see the same kind of penetration we’ve seen in other markets, such as vitamins and products for children.”
The research also states that only 17 percent of people say they are "regular" online grocery shoppers and that only 38 percent of consumers have shopped for groceries online at least once.
